Our Programs
At Miss Parker’s Preschool, children’s learning is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and thoughtfully informed by the NSW Kindergarten Syllabus. This approach supports developmentally appropriate practice while building strong foundations for children as they prepare for Kindergarten.
While play-based learning is central to our program, we also include structured blocks of learning and activities to support essential skills for the classroom, such as following instructions and working in groups. Every activity, whether structured or unstructured, promotes developmentally appropriate milestones through interactive experiences, helping children acquire important skills, including early numeracy and literacy, while progressing at their own pace. Our program nurtures a love for learning and builds confidence for the transition to formal schooling. We offer a balanced approach to development, supporting your child's growth in social, emotional, cognitive and physical areas. The transition from preschool to Kindergarten is smooth, built on a foundation of play, learning and individual progress.

Our Daily Rhythm
The following is an example of how our day runs at Miss Parker's Preschool. Our schedule provides a structured yet flexible framework to support children’s development and readiness for formal schooling, emphasising social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth throughout the day. Adjustments may be made based on specific program goals and the unique needs of the children and families involved at our preschool.
A Day at Miss Parker’s Preschool 7:30am – 9:00am | A Warm Start Children and families are warmly welcomed as they arrive. Breakfast is available until 8:00am for those arriving early. This gentle start to the day allows children to settle in comfortably, reconnect with friends and engage in a range of interest-based experiences that support emotional security and a positive start to learning. Children are expected to arrive by 8:45 am. 9:00am – 9:30am | Morning Circle Children come together for a short group gathering filled with songs, conversations and shared discussions about the day ahead. This time supports a sense of belonging, builds communication skills and helps children transition into the learning day with confidence. 9:30am – 10:00am | Morning Tea & Movement Children enjoy a healthy morning tea while socialising with friends. This is followed by playful movement and stretching experiences, including Munch & Move activities, supporting physical wellbeing and energy regulation. 10:00am – 11:00am | Outdoor Play Children spend time outdoors engaging in active play that develops strength, coordination and confidence. When weather does not permit outdoor play, engaging indoor gross motor experiences are provided to ensure children remain active and energised. 11:00am – 12:00pm | Small Group Learning (Intentional Teaching) Children participate in small groups, teacher- and educator-led learning experiences designed to deepen understanding and support individual development. These experiences intentionally strengthen early literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills. Teachers and educators guide and extend children’s learning through hands-on experiences such as shared reading, phonological awareness activities, early writing, counting and problem-solving tasks. Small group settings allow for meaningful interaction, targeted support and responsive teaching, building confidence and readiness for school. 12:00pm – 1:30pm | Lunch & Rest Children enjoy a balanced, nutritious lunch together in a relaxed and social setting. This is followed by a rest period where children can rest quietly, listen to stories or enjoy calming music, supporting wellbeing and self-regulation. 1:30pm – 2:30pm | Outdoor Exploration Children return outdoors to engage in play, exploration and movement, providing opportunities to reconnect with nature, build friendships and extend physical development. 2:30pm – 3:30pm | Afternoon Explorations (Structured Program) This session provides structured, educator-led learning experiences that extend children’s thinking and curiosity. Experiences may include music, science, creative arts or cultural exploration, supporting cognitive, social and creative development. Sustainability, wellbeing and cultural understanding are intentionally embedded within this block. Children may participate in reflective discussions and storytelling within our outdoor Yarning Circle, supporting respectful listening, emotional awareness and connection to Country, community and each other. 3:30pm – 4:00pm | Afternoon Tea & Progressive Pick-up Children enjoy a healthy afternoon snack and relaxed time to connect with friends. 4:00pm – 4:30pm | Calm Choice Time Children engage in quieter experiences outdoors, such as puzzles, reading, storytelling or creative play. This unhurried time allows children to follow their interests and gradually wind down. 4:30pm – 5:30pm | Structured Afternoon Experiences & Reflection The end of the day is intentionally planned and led by teachers and educators, with a focus on calm, structured free play areas, table activities and group experiences. Children participate in purposeful activities such as puzzles, board games, fine motor tasks, drawing and collaborative games. A short group reflection or closing circle supports children to reflect on their day, share experiences and enjoy stories or songs. Children are guided to pack their belongings and prepare for pick-up in a calm, organised way, supporting wellbeing, independence and a positive end to the day.

Early Learning Foundation
Early Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Literacy: Children will begin learnings letters and articulating sounds through fun, engaging games. Simple rhyming activities, storytelling and sing-alongs enhance their phonemic awareness. Numeracy: Through play, children will explore early number concepts such as counting, patterning and sorting using everyday materials. Simple mathematical language like “more,” “less,” “big,” and “small” is used during group discussions and activities. Social-Emotional Development: Activities like group games, cooperative play and role-playing promote the development of key social skills like sharing, turn-taking and problem-solving. Children will also participate in daily discussions and circle time where they can express their feelings and learn to respect others' perspectives. Physical Development: Both fine motor skills (through art, writing, and building activities) and gross motor skills (through climbing, running and coordinated games) are nurtured through hands-on play. Regular outdoor sessions help build strength, coordination and balance. Our teachers guide your child's learning experiences through gentle facilitation, setting up opportunities for discovery and exploration. They observe each child’s learning journey, providing encouragement and support to help them meet their individual goals, whether in early literacy, numeracy, social skills or physical development. Our educators are also key role models, demonstrating communication, problem-solving and social-emotional skills that children can mimic in their interactions.

Preparing for Kindergarten
Integrated Play and Learning: Numeracy: More structured activities involving numbers, counting, simple addition and subtraction and identifying shapes and patterns. Children will practice number recognition through songs, games and practical activities like sorting objects. Literacy: Focused activities to promote letter recognition, writing simple words and phonics. Children will engage in storytelling, song and group reading to improve comprehension and expand their vocabulary. School-Readiness Skills: Our program builds the skills needed for a smooth transition to formal schooling: Routine and Structure: Children will gradually adapt to a school-like routine with set times for activities such as group circle time, independent work and playtime. They will learn to follow a schedule, which helps build readiness for Kindergarten. Following Directions and Focus: Activities are designed to help children learn how to follow multi-step directions, sit and concentrate for longer periods and complete tasks independently. Self-Help and Independence: Daily routines will encourage children to take ownership of simple tasks like putting on jackets, packing away their belongings and managing personal items. Encouraging self-sufficiency prepares them for the responsibilities of school. Social-Emotional Learning: As children approach Kindergarten, there is an increased focus on understanding emotions, making new friends and resolving conflicts. Role-playing and group discussions will support emotional intelligence and self-regulation, which are critical for school success. Collaboration with parents and communication with families is essential. Teachers will share children’s progress and provide tips for reinforcing school-readiness skills at home. We also invite families to participate in school visits or parent workshops to prepare for the next step in their child’s educational journey.
