Our Program

At Miss Parker’s Preschool, we ensure your child's learning experience is enriching and aligned with their developmental needs. By integrating the Early Years Learning Framework and the NSW Kindergarten Syllabus, we focus on preparing your child for Kindergarten.

While play-based learning is central to our program, we also include structured activities to support essential skills for the classroom, such as following instructions and working in groups. Every activity, whether structured or unstructured, promotes developmentally appropriate milestones through interactive experiences, helping children acquire important skills, including early numeracy and literacy, while progressing at their own pace. Our program nurtures a love for learning and builds confidence for the transition to formal schooling. We offer a balanced approach to development, supporting your child's growth in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical areas. The transition from preschool to kindergarten is smooth, built on a foundation of play, learning, and individual progress.

Our Daily Rhythm

The following is an example of how our day runs at Miss Parker's Preschool. Our schedule provides a structured yet flexible framework to support children’s development and readiness for formal schooling, emphasising social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth throughout the day. Adjustments may be made based on specific program goals and the unique needs of the children and families involved at our preschool.

7:30 AM – 9:00 AM: A Warm Start We welcome children and families with open arms. Breakfast is available until 8:30 AM for those arriving early. This is a gentle time for settling in, enjoying free play, and exploring a variety of interest-based activities. 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Learning and Discovery We gather together for a short morning circle filled with songs and discussions about the day. After that, children join small groups to dive into hands-on activities that encourage early literacy, numeracy, and social skills—all guided by our educators. 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Morning Tea & Movement Children enjoy a healthy snack while chatting with friends. Then, we stretch and move with some playful Munch and Move exercises! 10:30 AM – 11:45 AM: Outdoor Adventures Time to head outside for fun on the playground or other physical activities that develop those big muscles! If the weather isn’t on our side, we bring the fun indoors with engaging gross motor play. 11:45 AM – 1:30 PM: Lunch & Rest After working up an appetite, we share a balanced, nutritious lunch together. Then, it’s time to relax and recharge—children can rest quietly, listen to stories, or enjoy calming music. 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Afternoon Explorations Our afternoon brings a mix of creative projects and themed activities (like music, science, or cultural exploration). Children’s curiosity shines as they take part in these enrichment experiences! 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Afternoon Tea A quick refuel with a healthy snack and more time to connect with friends. 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Choose Your Own Adventure Children enjoy free play or quiet activities like puzzles, reading, or storytelling. This is a lovely, unhurried time for them to follow their interests and unwind. 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Wrapping Up the Day We come together for a closing circle to reflect on the day, share stories, and sing songs. As the day winds down, children pack their belongings and get ready for pick-up.

Early Learning Foundation

Early Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Literacy: Children will begin recognising letters and sounds through fun, engaging games. Simple rhyming activities, storytelling, and sing-alongs enhance their phonemic awareness. Numeracy: Through play, children will explore early number concepts such as counting, patterning, and sorting using everyday materials. Simple mathematical language like “more,” “less,” “big,” and “small” is used during group discussions and activities. Social-Emotional Development: Activities like group games, cooperative play, and role-playing promote the development of key social skills like sharing, turn-taking, and problem-solving. Children will also participate in daily discussions and circle time where they can express their feelings and learn to respect others' perspectives. Physical Development: Both fine motor skills (through art, writing, and building activities) and gross motor skills (through climbing, running, and coordinated games) are nurtured through hands-on play. Regular outdoor sessions help build strength, coordination, and balance. Our teachers guide your child's learning experiences through gentle facilitation, setting up opportunities for discovery and exploration. They observe each child’s learning journey, providing encouragement and support to help them meet their individual goals, whether in early literacy, numeracy, social skills or physical development. Our educators are also key role models, demonstrating communication, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills that children can mimic in their interactions.

Preparing for Kindergarten

Integrated Play and Learning: Numeracy: More structured activities involving numbers, counting, simple addition and subtraction, and identifying shapes and patterns. Children will practice number recognition through songs, games, and practical activities like sorting objects. Literacy: Focused activities to promote letter recognition, writing simple words, and phonics. Children will engage in storytelling, song, and group reading to improve comprehension and expand their vocabulary. School-Readiness Skills: Our program builds the skills needed for a smooth transition to formal schooling: Routine and Structure: Children will gradually adapt to a school-like routine with set times for activities such as group circle time, independent work, and playtime. They will learn to follow a schedule, which helps build readiness for kindergarten. Following Directions and Focus: Activities are designed to help children learn how to follow multi-step directions, sit and concentrate for longer periods, and complete tasks independently. Self-Help and Independence: Daily routines will encourage children to take ownership of simple tasks like putting on jackets, packing away their belongings, and managing personal items. Encouraging self-sufficiency prepares them for the responsibilities of school. Social-Emotional Learning: As children approach kindergarten, there is an increased focus on understanding emotions, making new friends, and resolving conflicts. Role-playing and group discussions will support emotional intelligence and self-regulation, which are critical for school success. Collaboration with Parents: Communication with families is essential. Teachers will share children’s progress and provide tips for reinforcing school-readiness skills at home. We also invite families to participate in school visits or parent workshops to prepare for the next step in their child’s educational journey. In this program, teachers will be facilitators of learning, guiding children in structured activities while still allowing room for creative expression. They will model behaviors and skills that children will need to navigate kindergarten, such as listening, cooperating, and managing their emotions. Teachers will also provide gentle guidance on transitioning from a play-based environment to a more structured learning setting, using encouragement and positive reinforcement to help build confidence and resilience.

PREPERATION FOR KINDERGARTEN

By aligning with the NSW Kindergarten Syllabus, we prepare your child for the transition to formal schooling. Our curriculum introduces foundational concepts in literacy, numeracy, and other key areas, fostering confidence and readiness.

EARLY LITERACY

Our approach to literacy aligns closely with the syllabus requirements, fostering early reading and writing skills through interactive storytelling, phonics activities, and creative expression. By immersing children in language-rich environments and encouraging communication, we lay the groundwork for strong literacy skills that are essential for academic success.

EARLY NUMERACY

By focusing on the numeracy outcomes of the NSW Kindergarten Syllabus, our program introduces foundational mathematical concepts in a playful and engaging manner. Through activities tailored to their developmental stage, children learn to count, recognise numbers, explore shapes, and develop problem-solving skills that form the basis for future mathematical understanding.

INDIVIDUALISED APPROACH

While following these frameworks, we understand that each child is unique. Our teachers adapt activities and learning experiences to meet the individual needs and interests of every child, ensuring that they progress at their own pace.

COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING GOALS

The EYLF sets out key learning areas and developmental milestones that guide our teaching practices. This ensures that we cover all essential areas of early childhood development, including social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.

HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

Beyond academic skills, our curriculum emphasises the importance of social interaction, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These are essential skills that will serve your child well throughout their educational journey and beyond.

ADVENTURE-FILLED LEARNING

From exploring sensory activities to exciting storytelling sessions, every day is a new adventure at our preschool. We use the EYLF to guide us in creating activities that spark curiosity and imagination.

Play is at the heart of everything we do. Through games, music, art and outdoor play, your child is developing important skills like sharing, problem-solving and creativity all while having a blast!

CELEBRATING EACH CHILD'S UNIQUE JOURNEY

We know every child is different, so we personalise our approach to fit each child's interests and ability. This ensures that everyone feels included and excited to learn.

WELLBEING

By fostering a supportive environment and implementing activities that promote social interaction, emotional awareness, and physical activity, we empower children to become resilient, confident, and capable individuals. Each aspect of our curriculum is designed to nurture their overall wellbeing and prepare them for a success.
